Germany has always been part of me. Brought up with parents who both went through WW2 in Europe I was part of a trauma that I never experienced. When returning to Germany I always felt the same thing, a distance between me and my surroundings and feeling I really belonged there. Being on trains and in cars was the most comfortable way to view the country. I was in it, but not really there. A native and a stranger at the same time.
